I didn’t believe it either, but I do believe the Brill rep said it to this delightful SBL-er (Daniel is his name if I’m not mistaken)(just scroll down to the Brill remark).
This photo was snapped at the opening of the book exhibit this morning at the Boston SBL. Is this really the way biblical scholars and theologians should act? Believe you me, were Tilling and I there, this sort of nonsense wouldn’t be allowed. Who on earth is minding the children this year?? By the way, if you look towards the back of the crowd you can see NT Wrong shoving a young lady in the back trying to push her aside quite rudely.
You should all be very, very ashamed.
Antonio Lombatti and Joe Zias, together in one place? That spells doom for the relic hunters and the archaeological bunk spewers. They do, though, look like father and son, don’t they? Or maybe I should say, older and younger brother… But at least it looks like they are enjoying themselves at the SBL in frigid Boston.
Sure, I’m not there, but that doesn’t mean I can’t report on reports that I’ve been sent. Below, for example, is a photo of the breakfast buffet just down the street from the Conference Hotel. You can see hundreds and hundreds of biblical scholars sitting down for a low cost breakfast at the urging of Mark Goodacre, who, you’ll remember, urges attendees to pork out at breakfast to the point of breaking so that they need not eat the rest of the day.
On the third row see if you can spot Mark. And next to him, Jeffrey Gibson, and in the biggest stunner of all, Bishop NT Wrong is there too! See if you can spot him as well.
[nb- the reason Mark and others fall asleep during papers is because they eat too much at the buffet in the morning- just in case you want to stay awake for yours]
