Oh Ghastly Meme, Oh Wretched Torment

11/10/2008 1 comment

T.V. has tagged me in a meme about nothing.  I.e., a meme in which I’m supposed to relate 6 random things about myself.  Surely no one could be interested in such a thing but as I’m feeling gamey after a long day of conferencing, I’ll give it a shot.  But you’ll have to go there for the rules and I’m not tagging anyone because I already have enough enemies, and I’m probably about to make more.

1- Long, boring blog postings hold no interest for me.  If I want to read such things, which I love to do by the way, I read books.

2- I wish Philip Davies would blog and I’m going to tell him that to his face in January in Cambridge.

3- I loathe with all my might pretense.  Hence, pretentious people (and you lot know who you are) make me nothing but annoyed.  I find you dull and insipid and vacuous.

4- I rather enjoy breaking the rules of blogging.  Such as, for example, utterly disregarding the meme rules spewn forth when such things are posted.

5-  I think theologians and scholars without a sense of humor are more boring and useless than teats on a boar hog.

6- I find myself feeling more positively about agnostics than about fundamentalists because I think the former more honest.

I’m supposed, again, to tag someone else but I’m not.  See #4 above.

AIG Should Be Out of Business

11/10/2008 2 comments

Instead of getting yet more taxpayer money it, like Circuit City, should simply suffer the consequences of their unintelligent doings and file for bankruptcy or simply go out of business altogether.  Where are all the social and economic darwinists these days????  I guess they’re visiting the ‘Creation Museum’ to get tips on how to set up their own version.

And by the by, it’s Democrats who are pushing for this bailout and yet another low browed witless free money ’stimulus package’, along with the Re-Publicans.  Proving, again, that it doesn’t matter which party is in control- both are inept.

The Bible’s Buried Secrets: A Reminder

11/10/2008 Leave a comment

The special airing on Nova shows next Tuesday, November 18th, at 8 PM (Eastern Time).  The film’s production company has put together something of a blog about it, featuring a few videos and links to other websites which have mentioned it (including my posts here and here) as well as Aren’s and John’s.  Too, interestingly, is a review by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops here (at the bottom).

Mark your calendar or set your tivo or tape recorder (do people still use those?)  However it turns out, I’m sure it will engender a bit of discussion.

There is another volume that students of the Hebrew Bible will want to take note of:

Philip Davies: Memories of Ancient Israel- An Introduction to Biblical History, Ancient and Modern.

The Earring of the High Priest Discovered!

11/10/2008 3 comments

Well no, probably not, but as we all know, any little trinket found from in and around Jerusalem is always linked to the Bible, so I figured I’d go ahead and make the connection to save the archaeologists from having to do it willy nilly a la Mazar.  It’s a gold earring dating back approximately 2000 years.

UPDATE:  Here’s a photo (from the IAA via Joseph Lauer, who has now also picked up the story).  The report is also appearing on the usual news outlets now as well.
