The Identity of NT Wrong Revealed

11/04/2008 5 comments

Roland Boer’s quest seems to have resulted in – well- results.  Note this comment in this post:

uncle joe:  A little proletarian science wouldn’t go astray here, comrades. I pulled the blog’s i.p. address as 74.200.243.253. You can take it from here, Special Agent…

Now what’s interesting about this DNS is that it belongs to an ISP in Chicago.  Barack Obama was in Chicago today to vote.  Ergo, Barack Obama is NT Wrong!!!!!

Mystery solved, and the quest is finished.  Now the only question that remains is, why?

Delusions of Grandeur?

It may be the case that the naked archaeologist really is naked, mentally speaking, if he truly believes that a comparison between himself and Galileo is justifiable.   Jacobovici is reported to have said

I’ve got to tell you that I think this story you know I mean you could shut up Galileo, you could shut up Copernicus, you could argue that the earth was flat for a while and you think you won a victory on the day you shut up Galileo, but at the end of the day the earth is round and its not at the center of our universe. So at the end of the day, truth has a funny way of coming out.  …  All of this was upsetting so what happened was a tremendous amount of, I mean there’s a lot of internet chatter, there’s been I think six books against my book. Dr. Charlie Pellegrino and I, we wrote the book and I think there have been six books and three films already arguing against our presentation that this might very well be the tomb of Jesus. There’s so much pressure brought to bear on Discovery that they aired it once and even though it was their highest rated show of the year, actually more than a year, they never aired it again. They pulled all subsequent airings. Because there were over a million emails I think threatening sponsors and so on.

Antonio Lombatti, who found this story first, notes whimsically

I thought it wasn’t aired again because the authors’ conjectures were debunked one after the other. I may be wrong…

No, Antonio, you’re not wrong.  It wasn’t re-aired in the States because it was correctly seen to be rubbish.  But isn’t it amazing that even now he’s trying to keep the nonsense alive.  He’s becoming the Canadian equivalent of the publicity starved actress who will slump out of her car sans undergarments in full view of the photographers just to be mentioned in the next day’s news.  The naked archaeologist is naked and he wants everyone to see it.  And to boot, he’s concocted a persecution complex too.

The Tel Aviv Coin Cache

11/04/2008 Leave a comment

In what seems to be a discovery made today, archaeologists in Tel Aviv are claiming to have found the DNA of Jesus on a cache of coins.  A guest posting over on the Guild of Biblical Minimalists site seems to suggest that at any rate.

Personally I think it’s ridiculous and yet another sign of the moronic claims made these days in the field of biblical archaeology.  But read the guest post for yourself.

The Best Review of ‘Unholy Business’ (Besides Mine of Course) I’ve Yet Encountered

And it’s in the Star.  Aside from being a good summary and a fair look at Burleigh’s book, it offers some pretty sage advice to would be forgers and deceivers.  Advice the James Ossuary’s hawkers could have used.

If you’re going to fake a Biblical antiquity, keep it simple.  And don’t mention Jesus.

Yes, that’s smart!  Read the whole fine review.  Or better yet, just read the book for yourself.

Another Reason You Should Join SOTS

Those of you who have looked at the program for the upcoming Winter meeting (in January) will have noticed that one of the activities this year will be a visit to the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Research Unit.

It will be a fine opportunity to visit this first rate facility.  Things like this are just one of the reasons you should join the Society for Old Testament Study.

From the ‘Shoving It Down Your Throat’ Category

An Anglican lawyer has taken one of Britain’s top counseling services to court for firing him after he said his Christian beliefs could prevent him from giving sex therapy to gay couples. Gary McFarlane accuses the counseling agency, Relate, of bigotry and unfair dismissal because of his religious convictions. … McFarlane has been a Relate counselor for five years. He said what happened to him “could force other Christians out of counseling” and that “some have already reacted with consternation, saying if it could happen to someone of my experience, it could happen to them.”

Just a reminder that Paul once wrote, ‘do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed, by the renewing of your mind.’ Conformity at the threat of termination is simultaneously unjust and anti-democracy. Forced conformity is slavery.
