Sometimes I Know Just How Bucer Felt

When, on the 8th of July, 1527, he, exasperated, wrote to Zwingli

Die Wiedertäufer halten uns sehr in Atem, weil sie die Schrift unverhohlen ablehnen und die Genugtuung Christi leugnen.  Der Herr befrei uns von diesen ungereimten Menschen!

Especially when I read things like this

Just A Reminder, Christians- Obama isn’t The Savior of the World

Sure there’s plenty of Obam-olatry around and about these days- even among devoted Christians. But this very fine lampooning of worship of the politician that’s far too common and widespread is a much needed corrective. Watch, and learn.

Too Bad It Isn’t Michael Palin

That would be a fun VP pick! But McCain went for the VP most likely to win votes- especially among the women-folk disgruntled with Hillary’s ouster and white, blue collar middle middle class and lower middle class males who aren’t, to put it politely, willing to vote for a non-white. I.e., the racists who won’t vote for Obama simply and purely because he is Black.

Like Obama – and all politicians – McCain is a student of political expediency and cowers, as do they all, before its awesome presence.

Anyway, welcome, Sarah Palin, to the big league. It’s probably quite comforting to know that you were chosen not because you were most qualified or had the best mind but simply because you will appeal to the demographics the headliner candidate doesn’t.

Oh and one more thing, let’s face facts- the Republicans are playing hypocrite when they denounce Obama for his lack of experience and at the same time draft a woman for VP with less!  So, Sarah, don’t be surprised to discover ‘what’s good for the goose is good for the gander as well’.

Were true words ever written by a Brit?

UPDATE:  Or an Italian?

UPDATE II:  Or an insane Canadian? (though I do admit that ‘insane’ and Canadian’ can be used interchangeably and hence here they are needlessly repeated.  Need proof?  I give you Todd Bentley…).

A new book on John the Baptist (via Antonio) may answer that age old question. Take a look.

De canone missae epichiresis

By Huldrych Zwingli was published on the 29th of August, 1523.  It was one of Zwingli’s very earliest declarations of his understanding of the ‘Mass’.    The debate with those on the Lutheran and the Catholic sides would continue well past Zwingli’s death in 1531.  If anything stirred passions in 16th century Christianity it was the observance of the Mass.  This because the Mass was believed by the Catholics to transmit grace itself (imputing grace and thus salvation to those who participated) while for Zwingli and other Protestants it was not capable of communicating salvation because ’salvation was by grace alone, through faith, not works.’, even the work of chewing the body of Christ.  Thus, the Mass was the center of the doctrine of salvation.  And the doctrine of salvation is the core of the Church’s faith.  Which is why a right understanding of the Lord’s Supper was so important to Zwingli and the Reformers.

More on the Folly of The Amethyst Nonsense

Dave Moore is a man of sense and what he has to say ought to be listened to by the College Presidents who so foolishly no promote lowering the drinking age. Do read his remarks and then realize how right he is and how much smarter he is than those College leaders.
