What’s Billy The Dever Doing Now That He’s Retired?

He’s writing stirring and gripping children’s books! As the good Bishop who first happened upon this treasure suggests, the material (like all Dever’s materials I would add) is most suited for children between the ages of 6 and 14.

Gross

That’s the first word that came to mind when I read this. And then, my second thought, how many twins is Chris ‘the Antichrist’ Tilling toting around in his body?

The Upcoming Trials of the Christian-Newsom Murderers

The four miscreants still awaiting trial for the brutal and subhuman murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom will have their day in court. The first trial ended with a guilty verdict.

George “Detroit” Thomas got his new trial date this morning: Aug. 11. His will be the first in a series of death-penalty cases against the four people accused in the January 2007 slayings of 21-year-old Channon Christian and her 23-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Newsom.

If you’re not familiar with the story

Letalvis “Rome” Cobbins; his girlfriend, Vanessa Coleman; his brother, Lemaricus “Slim” Davidson; and Thomas are accused in the carjacking abduction of Christian and Newsom, who were taken to a house on Chipman Street, off Cherry Street in northeast Knoxville, where both were raped and tortured before they were slain.

May their execution be as speedy as Boyd’s trial (which took all of 3 days).  After, of course, they are found guilty (which they will be because they are).

My Final American Idol Prediction

Drum roll please….

David will win!!!!!!

You Don’t Need To Have a Test To Know They Are Pure Evil

Cats, that is. The Associated Press reports

“People come in and say, I had a black and white tuxedo cat before, so that’s what I want,” says Jim Monsma of the Washington Animal Rescue League in Washington, D.C. “But cats are not all the same. They have widely divergent personalities.” That’s why the shelter is now using the Feline-ality program, developed by behaviorist Dr. Emily Weiss of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Naturally I am inclined to scoff and mock at this point. So, I will. Cats are in fact all exactly the same: evil. Pure, unmixed, unmitigated wickedness. So, rather than pay good money to have your cat tested (I can’t believe how gullible and silly people are), send your money to aid the Chinese or the Burmese. Or just send your cat to one of those animal chaplain people and let them go through a series of counseling sessions. Perhaps your kitty will divulge there that the little thing was pushed off the teat by its siblings just one too many times and that’s what turned it into a ball of rage…

Quote of the Day

Homo non potest per se bonum — Heinrich Bullinger

Piles of Foreskins

Darrell asks a good question when he asks where Saul got the idea of demanding a pile of foreskins from David as a bridal price. Frankly I had never really pondered either the text nor the question Darrell raises about it. So, why does Saul want a pile of that stuff? Where’d he get the idea? And, most importantly, what’s the point, theologically, of a pile of foreskins?

And as an aside, with no disrespect to Saul, he always strikes me as a sort of serial killer who collects his victims body parts. The creepy factor of this story is 8 out of 10.

Baptist Solidarity With The Palestinians

A British Baptist leader joined a reported 15,000 people last Saturday in a march in central London showing solidarity with Palestinians. “I took part in this march because Palestinians today are suffering unjust treatment, and as a Christian, with a special interest in that part of the world, I believe it is our duty to speak out against these injustices,” said Gordon McBain, regional secretary for the Middle East and North Africa with BMS World Mission. McBain said he identified with the plight of Palestinians last year visiting Baptists in the West Bank and witnessing conditions under which Palestinian people are forced to live.

He’s right- it is our duty. And isn’t it nice to see Baptists on the side of something other than the right wing.

Die andere Schrift an Dr. Johannes Faber

‘ich gdar sagen, daß ich in vil jaren nit acht tag los bin gewesen von stryt’ wrote Zwingli in his Second Writing to Dr Johannes Faber which was published on the 15th of May, 1526. Being the Pastor of the Grossmunster and striving mightily to reform the Zurich church wasn’t exactly without a very high personal cost. Very few of us can say that we’ve only had 8 days in many years wherein we have not been engaged in some conflict or other. Nonetheless, in spite of the strife, Zwingli set out in this booklet to refute the misleading information Faber was passing along in the wake of the Zurich Disputation.
