‘I’m Not Dead Yet’: The Second Coming of Bible and Interpretation

Bible and Interpretation is a well known web resource (to those of us who have been around for a while, anyway). It’s been two or perhaps three years since its been active but I’m happy to bear the good news that it will be coming back soon. Bookmark it and check back every week or so. And rest assured, if you don’t do that, I’ll be doing it and I’ll let you know when it’s returned.

And – again – if for some reason you aren’t familiar with it, if you visit you’ll read essays by the cream of the biblical studies crop. Here’s hoping they are back with new essays and news announcements shortly.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

Crass materialism has reached a new low down in these here parts where a couple has been arrested for putting their kid in the trunk so they would have room in the seat for their big screen tv. WBIR reports

The arrest came after authorities got a tip that a child had been placed inside the trunk of a car traveling down Peavine Road. Cumberland County Deputy Timothy Tutors stopped the car, and asked the driver, Cory A. McDaniel of Crossville whether he had anyone in the trunk of his car. McDaniel said he did, and opened the trunk, where the officer found a 16-year-old boy. Deputy Tutors asked why the boy was in the trunk, and McDaniel explained that a TV he needed to transport wouldn’t fit in the trunk, but the teen would.

Remember that name – he is in the running to be America’s Next Top Depraved. Also remember the name of Rhonda Howard, the teenage boy’s adult sister, who was also in the car.

Ms. Howard was also arrested on reckless endangerment charges, and is free on $1,000 bond awaiting an April 28, 2008 court date.

I know I’m supposed to feel all warm and kindly towards such folk. You know, God’s children and all that. But it’s incredibly difficult to muster up the wherewithal to think kindly of people who have more regard for a tv than a teenager.  With thanks to Katie for the tip.  As she says, surely the miscreants could have borrowed a truck from someone.  It’s not like there isn’t one pickup for every 2 people in the county in which the offense took place.

Gasp!

I would have perished on the spot, if this had happened to me. Not that I own anything of that sort, but I transpose ‘violin‘ for ‘Corpus Reformatorum‘ volume and the sense is the same.

The 29th (XXIX) Biblical Studies Carnival is coming up.  If you have seen something which you think others would find interesting, particularly if it’s on a blog not on my own little blogroll, please do kindly let me know.  I am particularly interested in postings from little known blogs (i.e., biblio/biblica blogs of Technorati ratings less than 40).

Your aid really is appreciated.  Leave a comment or email me at jwest ‘at’ highland ‘dot’ net.  Thanks in advance.  Unless of course you don’t help, in which case, a pox on your house and may all your books become Chick Publications.   ;-)
